PrayUK October Bulletin 2008

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me, You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off, You comprehend my path and my lying down, and you are acquainted with all my ways … such knowledge is too wonderful for me.” (Psalm 139:1-5a)

Dear Friends,

As we came to prepare for this month’s Prayer Bulletin, we were encouraged when we read the above verses, by God’s complete knowledge of us and yet, the ease of access and the grace we have to enter into His presence with our petitions. What a wonderful and awesome God He is!

As this autumn unfurls before us with many of the foundations and institutions of our nation being shaken and crumbling, we sensed that God is bearing a searchlight on us and exposing all that is hidden and not of Him; a time of movement, pushing aside anything that would hinder the purposes and will of our Sovereign God. It seems to be a time of shaking, moving, and exposing. It is not in judgement, although it may be the consequences of our sin, but it is in God’s mercy (Isaiah 54:1-8), giving an opportunity for His Church to arise and provide a safe place for the ‘not yet churched’, many of whom feel insecure and fearful.

During this season, we believe and pray that all the Church might act ‘normally’ and have an undivided heart and focus upon Jesus, our Lord. “But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ … that I may gain Christ, and be found in Him and may attain to the resurrection from the dead.” (Philippians 3:7-11). As we display His likeness we will become more attractive to those who do not yet know Him.

We were encouraged to sense the presence of Christ towering over Scotland and holding a net ready to bring salvation and healing for many. At the same time, we also saw that God had drawn a line around England to rein her in and for her protection. We saw that this line was being threaded with many precious and rare ‘black’ pearls ready for the Bride of Christ to wear (only one in approximately 10,000 oysters naturally produces a black pearl). Then the line was withdrawn leaving the line of pearls intact and together. We sensed that the pearls represented those who give up everything to stand in the breach and pray for our nation (Matthew 13:45 ), and they shall become something beautiful, strong, and secure for our God (Revelation 21:21 ). This necklace is something of beauty and value to the Lord, “You have ravished my heart, my sister, and my spouse … with one link of your necklace.” (Song of Songs 4:9).

Let us remember that one of the titles of Christ is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, Overseer of all human history. May we have a greater revelation of Him, and submit to Him in love.

Thank you for standing with us in prayer.

PrayUK October Bulletin Notes

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me, You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off, You comprehend my path and my lying down, and you are acquainted with all my ways … such knowledge is too wonderful for me.” (Psalm 139:1-5a)

Day 1

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me…such knowledge is too wonderful for me.” (Psalm 139:1-5a) – Thank and praise God for your salvation, and the grace of access into His presence. Give time to worship Him as the God of mercy and bountiful love (Exodus 34:5-7).

Day 2

“… that I may gain Christ, and be found in Him …“ (Philippians 3:7-11) - Pray that the Church might be single hearted and focused upon Jesus Christ. As we display His likeness, may we be a safe and attractive place for those who do not yet know Him.

Day 3

“With a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you.” (Isaiah 54:8) – As we face a very uncertain autumn, pray for grace for our nation to turn away from idols and return to her God. Pray that His mercy will bring many who are insecure and fearful to Him for salvation.

Day 4

“Cast the net …” (John 21:6) – Thank God that His heart is to save and heal those in Scotland who don’t yet know Him. Pray that ‘revival’ will break out with an unprecedented number of people hearing and responding to His loving kindness and turning to Christ.

Day 5

“… I wanted to gather your children as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings …” (Matthew 23:37 -39) – Thank God for His mercy, His love and protection. Pray that England is reined in and drawn back into His protective arms. Pray for opportunities to share the Gospel and positive response from those who don’t yet know Christ.

Day 6

“… I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land …” (Ezekiel 22:30 ) – Thank God that many of His children are those who are building a wall of prayer around our nation and are interceding for it. Pray for strength, revelation, and perseverence as they stand before the King of nations.

Day 7

“Behold the Lion of the tribe of Judah , the Root of David has prevailed …” (Revelation 5:5) – Welcome Christ, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Overseer of all human history. Be enthralled with His beauty and passion for His Bride; allow Him to enrapture your heart. Pray that the UK Church will once again know that she is the Bride of Christ! Pray for that deep intimacy that God desires with His people.

NB: Please repeat prayer points for the rest of the month).

Prayer: We welcome and thank You, Sovereign God, for all that You are doing at this time across our nation. As You shake, and move all that stands in Your way, we pray that Your mercy and love will bring many people into salvation. Let us have a greater revelation of Jesus Christ, the Lion of the tribe of Judah , acknowledging Him, and submitting ourselves in love and worship of Him. May Your will and purposes be fulfilled at this time for Your glory – Amen.
